Warzone 2 Reveals Release Date and New Map Al Mazrah

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 reveals its huge brand-new battle royale map, Al Mazrah, and its various Points of Interest.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is launching later this year with a brand-new battle royale map for players to battle it out on. Activision has been hyping its big Call of Duty Next event for weeks now, promising to pull the curtain back on the highly-anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer and the Call of Duty: Warzone 2 battle royale. Activision has held true to that promise, officially revealing Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, the Warzone 2 map, and the BR’s release date.

As announced at the Call of Duty Next event, Call of Duty: Warzone 2‘s release date is November 16, coinciding with the launch of Modern Warfare 2 Season 1. Like its predecessor, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be completely free-to-play at launch.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2‘s Al Mazrah map is the biggest Call of Duty battle royale map to date. It features 18 points of interest, made up of a mix of brand-new areas and locations that should be familiar to longtime Call of Duty fans. For example, the Airport location is based on the fan favorite Terminal multiplayer map that was made famous in the original 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be making some major changes to the Warzone formula, which were touched on at the Call of Duty Next event. The Gulag will be returning, giving players a chance to earn their way back into a match after they’ve been killed, but with a twist. This time around, the Gulag will be a 2v2 affair, with players paired up with a random other person in the match. There will sometimes be AI opponents to deal with in the Gulag as well, which should make things even more challenging.

While the core experience will still be about player-versus-player skirmishes, AI bots will play a big role in Call of Duty: Warzone 2. Bots will be found in Call of Duty: Warzone 2‘s Strong Holds, and they will also be featured in the DMZ game mode. Activision stopped short of detailing what fans can expect from the DMZ game mode, but it did confirm that it exists and will be tied to Warzone 2, available to play at launch alongside the standard game modes.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 launches November 16 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
