Sword Art Online has become one of the most famous animes over the last decade. The show, based on a light novel series, takes place in the near future and revolves around Kazuto “Kirito” Kirigaya and Asuna Yuuki, who play through various virtual reality multiplayer game worlds.
The anime first premiered in 2012 and has, till now, aired three seasons, two films, and also a spin-off series. The third season of the show premiered in Japan in 2020 and was launched on Netflix in February 2022. Ever since the season finale aired, fans have been eagerly waiting for the fourth season. Sword Art Online Season 4: Is it Happening?
Sword Art Online Fans can rejoice as the show is going to return with a new season. The season has been titled “Sword Art Online Progressive”, and the announcement for the same was made back in September 2020 by animation studio Aniplex.
Although an official announcement about the date has not been made, multiple reports suggest that the fourth season will premiere on Netflix on November 6, 2022. The number of episodes in the new season also remains unclear.
The first season featured 25 episodes that aired from July to December 2012, and the second season had 24 episodes that went on from July to December 2014. The third season was much bigger and had 47 episodes divided into three parts, which aired from October 2018 to September 2020.
What to Expect from Sword Art Online Season 4?
The season will cover the first volume of the progressive series, which is titled the Aria of Starless Night. The show will feature the lead characters Kirtio and Asuna getting trapped in a virtual game, and if they die inside the game under any circumstances, they will die in the real world too.
What makes the show more entertaining is the bonding and chemistry between Kirito and Asuna. The way they support each other throughout the game and their nostalgic talks and couple-like antics are loved by the audience. The show is based on a light novel series written by Reki Kawahara, which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
Who will Return in Sword Art Online Season 4?
The show will feature some old characters from previous seasons as well as some new additions. For the English version, Kirito has been voiced by Bryce Papenbrook, and Asuna is played by Cherami Leigh.
Other voice actors will include Marc Diraison as Akihiko Kayaba, Stephanie Sheh as Yui, Kirk Thornton as Klein, Cassandra Morris as Leafa / Suguha Kirigaya, Patrick Seitz as Agil / Andrew Gilbert Mills, Xanthe Huynh as Sachi, Kevin M. Connolly as Heathcliff, Brandon Winckler as Eugeo, Erica Mendez as Yuuki and Kayli Mills as Alice Zuberg.
The show has been produced by Aniplex and Genco with animation by A-1 Pictures. Tomohiko serves as the series director, while the music is given by Yuki Kajiura.
