Solskjaer among favourites to replace Premier League boss

The ex-Manchester United manager is among those being touted as a possible replacement for Brendan Rodgers at Leicester.

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is among the favourites to replace Brendan Rodgers as Leicester City manager.

The Northern Irishman has endured a torrid start to the campaign with the Foxes and they’ve picked up just one point from the opening seven matches.

Therefore, it’s no surprise Rodgers’ future looks uncertain, with Scott Parker and Thomas Tuchel already losing their jobs in the opening weeks of the new campaign.

There is also no shortage of candidates being linked with a vacancy at the King Power, should it arrive.

Who’s favourite?

As per Oddschecker, Sean Dyche is the favourite to be the next Leicester manager, and is priced at 5/2.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino can be backed at 9/2, while Rafael Benitez is 6/1.

Next is Marcelo Bielsa (17/2) and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at a price of 12/1.

Other names being mentioned include Dean Smith, Nathan Jones, Kasper Hjulmand, Roy Hodgson and Ruben Amorim.

Solskjaer’s growing spotlight

Almost a year on from his sacking at United, there’s a different feeling surrounding Solskjaer, whose credentials were widely questioned during his time at Old Trafford.

But Bruno Fernandes and Brandon Williams have spoken fondly of the Norwegian in recent interviews, while his managerial stint at United is beginning to look more impressive after the struggles of Ralf Rangnick and, to a certain extent, Erik ten Hag, since Solskjaer’s sacking.

He was also linked with the Brighton & Hove Albion vacancy before Roberto De Zerbi was appointed on the south coast, while Fabrizio Romano tipped Solskjaer for a return to the English top flight.

“The situation is really quiet around Ole as of now,” the transfer guru wrote in his CaughtOffside column.

“I’m sure he would be a good call for many Premier League clubs, but he needs a clear and long-term project.”

When was Solskjaer sacked by United?

The 49-year-old was relieved of his duties on 21 November 2021 after a humiliating 4-1 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road.

The defeat also followed poor displays against Leicester, Liverpool and Manchester City, which meant the club’s hierarchy were forced to take action.
