rince Harry will be wearing military uniform alongside seven of the Queen’s grandchildren for a special memorial service on Saturday, it has been reported.
Palace officials intervened after the Duke of Sussex was blocked from wearing a uniform while his uncle the Duke of York had special dispensation despite being embroiled in the Jeffrey Epstein child sex trafficking scandal.
Harry, who saw action on the front line during two tours of duty in Afghanistan, had previously worn a morning suit emblazoned with medals for official events including the late monarch’s state funeral.
All of the Queen’s eight grandchildren including Harry and William will wear military garb for a 15 minute silent vigil next to the Queen’s coffin in Westminster Hall on Saturday.
A royal source told The Mirror: “Common sense has prevailed.
“It was a ludicrous situation given the Duke of Sussex has served his country and is a highly respected member of the armed forces with everything he has done for veterans.
“It is important that the Queen’s grandchildren are all made to feel welcome and comfortable as they grieve their beloved grandmother together.”
It came after a spokesperson for the Sussexes hit back over the funeral ban saying: “Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother.
“His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
He was stripped of all his honorary military roles by the Queen and stepped down from public life in the wake his friendship with paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
But the Duke of York was granted special permission as a “special mark of respect” for his mother at the Vigil of the Princes, where none of the Queen’s grandchildren will be attending.
