Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen Fans Complain About Shonen Jump Graphic Exclusion

The Shonen Jump Twitter account recently shared an image celebrating some of its most iconic characters, but some fans weren’t happy with the lineup.

Manga magazine and app Shonen Jump recently reached one million followers on Twitter, and, in celebration, the company shared a graphic showcasing some of its most iconic heroes. While the graphic features some popular and beloved characters, the exclusions were more noteworthy to some fans than the inclusions.

Shonen Jump shared its one million follower celebration on its Twitter account on Sep. 14, highlighting characters from some of its most well-known manga. Those characters include One Piece‘s Monkey D. Luffy, My Hero Academia‘s Izuku Midoriya, Demon Slayer‘s Tanjiro Kamado, Bleach‘s Ichigo Kurosaki and Chainsaw Man‘s Denji.

It didn’t take long for Shonen Jump fans to notice some missing characters from the graphic. Popular Shonen Jump characters like Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Yuji Itadori, and Dragon Ball‘s Son Goku are totally absent from the image, despite their immense popularity.

Plenty of complaints arrived from general manga fans in the replies to Shonen Jump’s tweets, but even Bleach fans, whose series is proudly represented in the image, were left a bit puzzled by the absence of other iconic characters.

The comments of a Reddit post sharing the Shonen Jump graphic on the Bleach subreddit are rife with baffled manga readers curious about the disappearance of popular characters who have headed up Shonen Jump promotions in the past. Naruto, for example, has been the face of the magazine for years but is curiously out of the picture here. Some have pointed out that Naruto’s ongoing series has been over for several years, which might explain the character’s absence from the promotional picture. However, the Naruto sequel series Boruto is still running, both as a manga and as an anime adaptation. The same is true of several characters whose stories are technically “over” — Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z may be long over but Son Goku is still having adventures in Dragon Ball Super.

Readers can find every manga character Shonen Jump elected to exclude from its promotional image on the Shonen Jump app, where they can subscribe to Shonen Jump+ to read all digital chapters of manga published in the magazine for $1.99/month.
