It seems like every day another game is getting delayed. Earlier this week, it was Zynga’s competitive arena combat game, Star Wars: Hunters.
In a post on social media, the team behind Star Wars: Hunters shared an update on the progress of the game which, unfortunately, calls for another delay. Zynga is now targeting a release in 2023 for Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices.
This is the second delay for the game, which was first announced in 2021 with a release date that year. It was then delayed to 2022, but will now release sometime in 2023.
This latest delay comes after the game’s soft launch, which has provided plenty of valuable feedback and likely the insight needed to delay the game.
“We understand game delays are frustrating, however, our top priority is ensuring players will have the best possible experience in the Arena,” the developer said.
Although the game has been delayed, new content will continue to roll out regularly in territories where the game has soft launched. The next update is slated to arrive within the next couple of weeks.
Star Wars: Hunters takes players to the planet of Vespaara where they’ll compete in high-stakes competitions within the arena. The game offers the choice of multiple tactically diverse Hunters, each with their own unique abilities to help you dominate your opponents.
Star Wars: Hunters isn’t the only game to be delayed. It was reported this week that Aspyr’s remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has been put on pause indefinitely following a disappointing vertical slice show to production partners.
But the delays span far beyond the galaxy far, far away. Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been pushed back a few months, and prior to that Bethesda delayed both Redfall and Starfield to 2023. It’s never fun to learn about delays for games you’re excited about, but it’s better than launching them in a broken state (see: Cyberpunk 2077).
