Best games shown at Sony’s State of Play

Sony held a State of Play yesterday, just after the Nintendo Direct, and in it were several new surprises alongside closer looks at previously announced games. While a little lacking in content, the quality of the games shown more than made up for it. We’ve got a list of the top games shown, but if you’d like to view the entire State of Play, you can do so here.

Tekken 8

Previously announced at this years Evo, a world tournament for fighting games, Tekken 8’s appearance at the State of Play showed some in-game footage of Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima duking it out on a rain-shorn rocky outcropping. While there wasn’t much to show, what they did show was very promising. Tekken 8 has no announced release date.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition

A Star Wars title unlike any other, Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge has you exploring the Star Wars universe via VR technology. Promising to make use of the unreleased PSVR2, this remaster of the 2020 game will see you getting into gunfights, exploring various Star Wars locales, and meeting up with a cast of characters like C-3PO and R2-D2. Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge launches in 2023 on the PlayStation 5.

Like A Dragon: Ishin

Your favourite Yakuza characters, except they’re in the 1890s. Ishin is a remake of the Japan-only Ryu Ga Gotoku: Ishin title that released back in 2014. Built in Unreal Engine 4, the game promises stunning graphics and a beautiful story that can only come from the minds behind the Yakuza series. Ishin releases February 2023.

Stellar Blade

Previously known as Project Eve, Stellar Blade follows the journey of a woman on a mission to save the remnants of humanity from the NA:tive threat. Along the way, she will be able to choose between selfishness and power or selflessness and aiding others. Flashy graphics and some cool action sequences make this a game to keep your eye on. Stellar Blade launches in 2023.

God of War Ragnarok

There isn’t much we can tell you about Ragnarok that hasn’t been said elsewhere. If you’re a fan of Kratos and Boy’s wacky adventures through the Nine Realms, Ragnarok will be out this November for your enjoyment.

The game will undoubtedly be both a tear-jerker and an exciting hype machine, so get the tissues ready. There is a new PlayStation 5 controller featuring God of War insignia as well, though a price point hasn’t been set.
