Ange Postecoglou admits Celtic player is not fit enough

Celtic have a pretty deep squad at this point of time. They were able to prevent any key players from leaving this summer, except for Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic, both of whom left at the end of last season. On the other hand, the Hoops strengthened their squad in multiple areas of the pitch and have a lot more options now than they did this time last year, when Ange Postecoglou was often forced to play players out of position.

Other than Moritz Jenz, who was brought in on loan from Lorient, none of Celtic’s new signings from the summer has made much of an impact till now though. It must be pointed out that we are just nine games in.

One of the players who arrived this summer is Oliver Abildgaard, on loan from Rubin Kazan. He is the physical defensive midfielder that Celtic seemed to be lacking. But he is yet to play a single minute of football for the club.

And Postecoglou has admitted that he still needs to be working on his fitness. As reported by Glasgow Times, the Celtic manager said about Abildgaard:

“Oli is working his way through his fitness so he’ll be in the squad but he’s still got a bit of work to do.

“It’s fair to say as he missed all of pre-season and has been training by himself.

“We’ve just got to be careful with him but he’s in the squad, so we’ll see.”

Postecoglou admits that Celtic summer signing is not fit enough at the moment

Last season also, Celtic had faced a similar issue with Giorgos Giakoumakis, who had missed almost all of pre-season and struggled with fitness issues throughout the first half of the season.

As we all know, things changed following the turn of the year and since then, he has been one of Celtic’s most vital players, scoring goals almost for fun at times.

Thus, hopefully, Abildgaard will get the time to get to peak fitness and that won’t take too much longer. A lot of exciting claims have been made about his quality and most Celtic fans will be hoping to see him on the pitch as soon as possible.
