All about Naruto and what’s happening in the series now

Naruto is one of the most identifiable names in animation. But what is the Naruto series about, and what’s happening in the series today?

Naruto is one of the biggest anime and manga series in history, reaching almost unprecedented levels of popularity. Though there have been plenty of popular anime in western markets, Naruto has hit heights usually only reserved for the likes of Pokemon. But what makes Naruto so popular? And what’s the current status of the series? Here’s everything you need to know.

What is Naruto?

Naruto is an anime and manga series created by Masashi Kishimoto.

The series follows main character Naruto Uzumaki from Konoha, also translated to the Hidden Leaf Village. The series starts with ninja-in-training Naruto at 12 years old, living alone as an orphan. He discovers this isolation stems from the fact that he has a fox demon sealed inside his body.

After becoming a ninja he is partnered with Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha and placed under the tutelage of Kakashi Hatake. Sasuke splits from the group in order to hunt and kill his estranged brother Itachi, who is part of a band of outlaws named the Akatsuki. It slowly becomes clear that the Akatsuki are much more than just a group of criminals.

Is Naruto over?

The Naruto story ended with the conclusion of Naruto Shippuden in 2017, but there’s an ongoing spin-off that follows Naruto’s son Boruto that serves as a sequel.

A climactic battle against the series’ twist villain ushers in the end of an age for the world and the finale of Naruto Shippuden. This effectively serves as the conclusion of the series. The good news for diehard Naruto fans is that they can see what happens after the dust settles.

Boruto follows the story of the son of Naruto. The series shows what happens to the characters of the original Naruto anime and manga, taking place roughly 15 years after the events of Shippuden. Though the series primarily follows a new cast of characters who are descended from the Naruto cast, it affords screen time to almost all the most notable characters.
